What a first day! I left Logan airport and the United States
behind at 9pm on Saturday June 17th. The flight was scheduled to
land at 8am the next day Dublin time but we were ahead of schedule-45 minutes
early. Crazy! Although I really wanted to sleep, all the commotion of being
close to the bathrooms and the drink
and food carts going by for the first part of the journey made getting a little shut eye a difficult feat. Finally around midnight (US time) I fell asleep and got a solid two hours. I have to say though, I had a window seat, an airplane blanket and a pillow.
Also I had a wall behind me instead of more seats so I was able to keep my seat reclined and not have to worry about it. I had my headlight at the ready in case needed it, but I didn't have to make an emergency stop in Goosebay. Someone please tell my Uncle Paul that I did though, he will laugh his pants off!
I work up to watch the sunrise up in the sky an hour before touching down at Dublin International Airport at 7:25am (Dublin time). Waiting in the crazy ridiculous immigration line was making me anxious but soon enough I saw my other two co’s and was immediately put at ease. One of the hardest parts was that I wasn't able to post and send anything on the internet even though I had wifi-sorry if you were worried ma! I have obtained the wifi code in my apartment now so I should be able to post each night! After getting five of us into a car with way too many pieces of luggage, we had a great ride to our apartments with a really nice cab driver. He gave us all some good tips to remember and showed us what the city is like on a Sunday morning.I got to my apartment (20) and although I am on the first floor I have a balcony that looks over the courtyard-score! I think I made a good choice of rooms mostly because of the closets! We were able to meet the head-RA over here, and I look forward to working with him. For lunch he treated us to the oldest pub in Dublin- The Brazen Head Pub. My first meal in Ireland….Chicken Goujon and fries (so slightly larger chicken nuggets). Adam showed Justine, Shane (my co’s) and I the closest ATM, the dollar store and the grocery store. After going to one grocery store we headed out to find another on the North side of Dublin. I live in the South and they are separated by the River or the Luffe.
We got a little confused on our way but immediately an Irish man came up to us and just started directing us-super nice guy! We ended up walking right through this mall we had no idea was there-Crazy! After coming home from our little excursion the three of us ate dinner together-Yes mom I made food for myself, it’s a miracle isn't it... well to be honest Shane cooked my chicken for me cause I was nervous. I am looking forward to heading down to the extreme south side of the city to the academic center (about a 25 minute walk). Now as I figure out how to turn the TV on, I hope my mother will read this and Skype me so I can see her face.
PS. I promise these posts will get more interesting once I start actually doing things
